Open Source Software Powers Interop for IIoT Edge Ecosystems

April 24, 2017
Jason Shepherd, the Director of Strategy and Partnerships for Dell's IoT Division thinks there's too much reinvention in the Industrial IoT. So much so that hundreds of applications each week rewrite drivers for a zigbee or modbus drivers at the application layer. In this interview with Rich Nass of Embedded Computing Design, Jason introduces the EdgeX Foundry, an open source software initiative for IoT edge gateway ecosystems driven by the Linux Foundation that provides a containerized approach to interoperability between Industrial IoT sensor connections and applications. Afterwards, Jim White, a Dell Distinguished Engineer and Software Architect, walks the group through a demonstration of EdgeX Foundry running on a Dell 5000 Series Gateway.
