Automotive Safety Using the IoT

Cars and other vehicles are so much safer now than they were just a few years ago, and that trend will continue. Ironically, the more we take the user out of the equation, capitalizing on active safety control systems, the safer the vehicles will become.

It’s important to differentiate between active safety and passive safety. The easiest way to define that relationship is that active safety performs the operation without user intervention, like automatically applying the brakes, while passive safety alerts the driver, requiring the driver to take an action. The mainstream implementation of blind-spot detection is a good example of a passive safety system.

Everfocus offers a series of products that specialize in active safety, each of which can be customized to support specific user needs and design criteria. That includes everything from the cameras to the complete compute platforms, which are built on Intel technology.

Everfocus’ Mobile Network Video Recorders (NVRs) operate with Movidius Modules and OpenVINO to implement AI in automotive applications. That’s coupled with the company’s All in One (AiO) NVR software and mobile app, which can be installed on individual vehicles or entire fleets.

OpenVINO helps optimize the required deep-learning models and enables deep learning inference from edge to cloud while accelerating AI workloads. If implemented properly, this could include computer vision, audio, speech, and language.

As you’ll see in the video posted here, presented by Everfocus’ International Sales Manager, Rafael Islamov, these Cloud-based systems are highly configurable, in terms of Cloud support. They can be installed with the company’s Xfleet Fleet management system, or with a host of third-party partners. Thanks to the Intel AI edge computing, EverFocus’ smart transportation solutions provides partners with a safer driving experience.
