COMPUTEX Taipei: Neousys machine vision combines Core i series and MCU for real-time video processing

A quick break from straight board-level products paired me with Neousys, an embedded manufacturer that focuses on machine vision technologies for industrial, transportation, and surveillance applications. James Gau, the design firm’s president, explained that in the company’s short 5-year history they have fostered close relationships with the MV world, leading to the development of Neousys Power over Ethernet-enabled (PoE-enabled) camera systems, which at the time of their introduction were an industry first; Now, of course, PoE is pretty much standard in vision systems.

Neousys’ complete, rugged systems are mainly designed around Intel Core processor technology that provides a level of real-time response that is increasingly required for critical vision applications. In the traffic surveillance example pictured below, the Core i series processors team with an onboard MCU that handles much of the I/O synchronization on for the Neousys iVIS 200. In the coming years Gau plans to take his company’s high-end vision platforms into the mobile space.
