One thing that seems to be a sure bet is that the 802.11 standard, aka WiFi, will continue to march on to higher performance and robustness. That’s exactly the case with the 802.11ax flavor, which is now hitting its stride with the introduction of silicon solutions. To that end, Marvell recently introduced what it is claiming to be the industry’s most complete 802.11ax wireless product portfolio, which includes a full MU-MIMO and OFDMA uplink and downlink.
Initially aimed at dense deployments and crowded public venues like airports, stadiums and shopping malls, it’s fair to say that the average home is quickly becoming a dense environment in its own right. Hence the need for the 802.11ax standard, which offers full backward compatibility with existing versions.
The Marvell wireless system-on-chips (SoCs) offer multi-gigabit peak speeds, precision location, cloud management, best-in-class beamforming, and integrated Bluetooth 5 technology. The new additions to the family are the 88W9068, 88W9064, and 88W9064S devices.
The 88W9068 is optimized for premium enterprise and retail access points, carrier gateways and fixed wireless services. Its key features include: an eight-by-eight, eight-spatial stream device with 5-GHz support. The 88W9064 is aimed at mainstream enterprise, as well as retail access points and carrier gateways and fixed wireless services. It offers four-by-four, four-spatial stream device with 5/2.4-GHz support. And finally, the 88W9064S is for the service provider and OTT set-top box markets, with two-by-four, two-spatial stream device with 5/2.4-GHz support.
