A host of products from Kontron target rugged industrial, medical apps

Kontron recently announced a series of products that help put the systems integrator squarely in the rugged industrial environment. First, the ZINC19 rackmount series is specifically aimed at industrial and medical applications. Available in 2U and 4U configurations, the series can be configured with either 6th Generation Intel Core or XEON microprocessors. Optional high-performance graphic cards make demanding graphics and image processing a reality.

The series is specifically designed for continuous operation in rough industrial environments and can withstand exposure to extended shock, vibration, and temperature levels. It can be customized to meet specific application needs thanks to their modular structure and numerous expansion slots. Up to five PCIe and two PCI slots allow for a wide variety of options, including a 10-Gbit/s expansion card and a set of high-performing graphic cards.

The ZINC19 rackmount systems can be equipped with a number of internal and removable SSD or HDD drives. Up to 64 Gbytes of main memory is supported with optional error correcting code memory (ECC). Due to their high shock and vibration tolerance, the ZINC19 rackmount series is suited for 24/7 operation in rough environments including a temperature range of 0°C to 50°C. Its design allows for quiet operation in noise-sensitive areas. There’s support for Linux, and Windows 7 or 10 can be pre-installed.

A second product, the RES2404-PTP, is a high-end rugged Ethernet switch, housed in a 19-in. 1U housing. It’s paired with two fully managed Ethernet switch core modules, the ESC1600-PTP and ESC2404-PTP modules. Built with a “precision time protocol, the modules offer precise synchronization of clocks throughout a network in accordance with the IEEE 1588 standard. The RES2404 is a cost effective, fully managed Ethernet switch for industrial and military applications. It can be monitored remotely via SNMP, command line, or a web interface.

The ESC1600-PTP and ESC2404-PTP modules form a basis for robust high-performance Ethernet switching devices. Thanks to their scalable number of interfaces, both boards provide a rich and versatile feature set on a custom base board design. This helps reduce development cost and enables fast lead times for customer specific devices. Both modules support the IEEE 1588v2 PTP standard for time-sensitive applications, important for automation, metrology, and security purposes as well as in the automotive and defense industries.

Finally, the HPW 410 high-performance workstation, also designed for industrial and medical applications, supports up to three GPGPU expansion cards, suiting the workstation for industrial image processing or the evaluation of imaging processes in the medical field. The system easily handles CPU-intensive tasks and large amounts of data thanks to up to two integrated Intel Xeon processors.

Depending on individual requirements, the HPW 410 can be upgraded with various internal or removable SSD or HDD drives. Various GPGPU and IO expansion card options such as 10-Gbit Ethernet are available as well. The workstation is designed for continuous operation in demanding environments. It’s shock and vibration resistant and suitable for operations within a 0°C to 50°C temperature range from.
