UltraSoC-Led Consortium Gets Funding for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Cybersecurity Solutions

Collaboration includes Coventry University, Copper Horse and University of Southampton.

UltraSoC will receive £2m ($2.51m) from Innovate UK for a project that will improve the safety and security of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) of the future. UltraSoC will also be working with the Universities of Southampton and Coventry, and cybersecurity specialist consultancy Copper Horse, to generate an on-chip monitoring solution for CAVs.

The collaboration will be carried out in the following ways:

  • UltraSoC’s embedded analytics technology, which utilizes designated hardware to detect security issues faster than traditional software techniques, will enable technology companies to implement self-monitoring properties into the microchips that power their products.
  • The University of Southampton’s Machine Learning experts will collaborate with UltraSoC engineers to create algorithms and code to detect security and safety problems.
  • The Institute of Future Transport at Coventry University will produce a testbed demonstrator embodying an automotive replica to corroborate results.
  • Copper Horse will exhibit cybersecurity situations and assess the strength of the project’s productivity.

“Cybersecurity and functional safety risks in these CAV applications are real. We are proud to have been recognized by Innovate UK for our ability to deliver safer and more secure systems for the automotive industry,” said UltraSoC’s Chief Strategy Officer, Aileen Ryan. “We look forward to collaborating with our partners and consultants in following through to deliver an improved embedded infrastructure for connected and autonomous vehicles, which will ultimately improve the safety of our citizens and infrastructure.”
