Infineon Technologies released the Smart Entrance Counter Solution, a discrete radar that counts individuals with the XENSIC 60GHz radar sensor and integrated software. The company developed the counter solution to help with social distancing in buildings and rooms.
“We aimed at quickly creating an effective solution that allows every one of us to securely move within public spaces, in offices, airports or restaurants according to the regulations of the so-called new normal”, said division president of power & sensor systems at Infineon Technologies Andreas Urschitz, in a press release. “Our smart entrance counter solution is a closed system. On the one hand, it prevents overcrowding, on the other hand, it enables businesses to keep their operations running.
“And most importantly, due to the use of radar technology, personal data are 100% protected. The system counts a person but does not know who it is.”
The board, which measures just 20 mm x 15 mm, is clearly small in size and is rather discrete.
Per the release, Infineon expects the volume of the solution to reach 90 million units globally. With the XENSIV radar sensor, the solution is fully contactless and can be installed on the side or ceiling of a structures entrances and exits.
