Diodes Inc’s Boost Controller for LED/LCD Apps Delivers 1~100 Percent Dimming Range

May 8, 2019 Alix Paultre

Diodes Incorporated introduced the AL3353 LED/LCD 40V max input boost controller, applicable in applications where a constant voltage or constant current are required to drive displays and backlights with a dimming ratio of 100:1. The AL3353 is a multipurpose boost controller featuring a wide input voltage of 9V to 40V, and includes comprehensive and robust circuit protection.

With Diodes’ dynamic linearity compensation, which uses an offset cancellation chopping circuit, the AL3353 maintains linearity across temperature and process variations, accepting a digital PWM input and converting it to an internal analog signal to control the dimming level. The AL3353 features protection designed specifically for the target applications, including diode and inductor short protection, LED cathode short-to-GND protection, LED-open protection, and power MOSFET overcurrent protection. Other protection features are under-voltage lock-out, output overvoltage and over-temperature protection, and Vout-short protection.
