Kaman Memory Announces New Ruggedized Memory Cards

High performance digital media ideal for military and aerospace applications

The Memory Division of Kaman Precision Products, Inc., a world leader in the design and manufacture of digital storage systems and media for military and aerospace applications, announces two new ruggedized memory cards, the Kaman SATA card and the Sentinel PC card flash memory, which guarantee survival and operations in extreme environmental conditions.

The new cards, compliant to MIL-STD-461F, are hermetically sealed in stainless steel and can withstand shock, vibration, humidity, and immersion, making them ideal for the most severe military environments, including fighter aircraft, helicopters, and ground Army applications. They can operate in temperatures ranging from -40°F to 185°F (-40 to 85°C), at altitudes up to 40,000 feet. Contained in both cards is an intelligent controller, including reading/writing hardware and software. The cards support declassification commands for highly sensitive applications requiring erasure of data.

The new Kaman SATA card features a unique ruggedized design, small form factor, high memory density, and on-card encryption providing data-at-rest functionality. It provides throughput of 100 megabytes per second (MB/s), capacity of up to 512 gigabytes (GB), and 3.3 volts direct current (VDC) operation. The Kaman SATA Card uses a standard ATA command set and is compatible with USB-equipped computers and laptops, using a ground station adaptor.

Also available is the Sentinel PC card flash memory, which features throughput of 20 MB/s, capacity of up to 32GB, and power of greater than +3.3 or 5VDC. Flash memory is configured in 512 byte erasable sectors for maximum compatibility. Weighing only 2 ounces, the Sentinel PC card flash memory uses a standard ATA command set and is compatible with Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA)-equipped computers and laptops. It can also be operated as a storage device connected to an integrated drive electronics (IDE) controller.
