Artila introduces single port serial-to-Wi-Fi gateway Aport-213

Aport-213 provides connectivity for serial devices, such as meters and sensors to 802.11 wireless local area networks.

Artila Electronics, which specializes in the development and manufacture of Linux-ready ARM embedded industrial computers, has announced the Aport-213, a single port serial-to-Wi-Fi gateway now available on the market. Aport-213 provides connectivity for serial devices, such as meters and sensors to 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANS). Eliminating the need for the development of a wireless LAN driver and security supplicant, it is ideal for minimizing upfront engineering investment and reducing time to market. With Aport-213, existing serial devices can be used with the most popular operating systems on the market. There is no need to write special drivers for specific operating systems since Aport-213 can be configured as a transparent bridge. This allows a serial device to communicate wirelessly with no modifications to your existing software required.

Moreover, Aport-213 supports Cloud connectivity with the enterprise security including WPA, WPA2, WEP plus 802.1x authentication, including 802.1x Extensible Authentication protocol (EAP) with all the major EAP types and WPA2, WPA2-PSK, WPA, WPA-PSK and WEP wireless security. In addition, Aport-213 minimizes power while transmitting and receiving data (approximately 180mA) while its power management features reduce power usage during periods of inactivity. Thus, Aport-213 is especially suitable for remote monitoring environments such as agriculture, smart energy, security systems, factory automation, and more.
