Aetina Deep Learning-Enabled Solar UGV PoC to Advance Drone Development

Solar-powered UGVs in planetary exploration could use deep learning to better evaluate, understand, and react to their surroundings.

Taipei, Aug. 22nd, 2019 – In booming unmanned machine market, drones and UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle) are being used in various vertical markets. As requirements grow, there is increasing demand to integrate edge AI directly onto the unmanned platforms themselves.

For instance, solar-powered UGVs in planetary exploration could use deep learning to better evaluate, understand, and react to their surroundings. This requires a small-form-factor AI computing platform that is able to analyze environmental data from numerous vehicle sensors in real time.

Here on earth, similar systems could be used to integrate video streams from multiple surround-view cameras with GPS data, for instance, and transmit that information over 5G networks back to cloud systems.

The Aetina AX710 robotics platforms employ an Nvidia Jetson AGX Xavier module with 512 CUDA cores for real-time deep learning in real-world environments. The AX710 supports a wide temperature range (-40°C to +85°C) and integrates easily with GPS trackers so that mobile robots can remain within boundaries like Geofences.

The AX710 integrates InnoDisk’s iCAP remote monitoring system so that the device can be updated from the cloud.
