Synaptics Integrates Chirp “Data-over-Sound” Technology for Network-less IoT Device Configuration

Synaptics has integrated Chirp’s data-over-sound software into its edge computing SoCs, which allows smart devices to exchange data via ultrasonic audio even if they’re not connected to the same network or have no internet connection.

Chirp’s ultrasonic audio technology is inaudible to the human ear. Applications of the technology integration include Wi-Fi provisioning of nearby smart home devices such as smart speakers, set-top boxes, mesh network nodes, thermostats, security systems, and other appliances without the need for prior network configuration or pairing.
