AImotive aiSim2 autonomous vehicle simulator brings determinism to hardware/software-in-the-loop testing

HELSINKI. AImotive has released the aiSim2 simulator, an autonomous vehicle technology for testing and validating self-driving cars. Unlike game-based simulators, aiSim2 relies on a purpose-built engine and optimized hardware that adhere to the laws of physics and deliver high levels of determinism and realism.

Because game-based vehicle simulators do not provide deterministic results, minor differences in calculations can produce different results in identical tests. The aiSim2 engine renders every frame in a simulation identically down to the pixel level, even on heterogeneous hardware platforms based locally or in the cloud. This means that self-driving systems under test produce outputs based on changes to the system itself, not differences in rendering.

aiSim2 uses Khronos’ Vulkan API to enable efficient execution on a range of single- or multi-processor GPU system configurations. This enables hardware agnosticism as well as increased performance for hardware/software-in-the-loop testing.
