Latest AMD Embedded Processor Boasts Super Performance/Watt

When you look at the features present in some of the coming applications, like high-end gaming, industrial vision, and mil/aero, you could make the argument that a new class of processor is needed. And according to the folks at AMD, their latest Ryzen device fits the bill. The Embedded R1000 SoC offers dual core, quad-threaded performance. It can run in a fanless configuration, yet has the power to handle up to three 4K displays at up to 60 FPS, while providing H.265 Encode/Decode(10b) and VP9 decode capabilities.

The multimedia-rich processor builds on the company’s popular V1000 and is already sampling and in use with beta customers. The Ryzen Embedded R1000 takes advantage of the same leading-edge security features of the AMD embedded family, including Secure Root of Trust and Secure Run Technology, giving developers the features for enabling secure solutions, whether they’re connected into an edge computing network, or running a digital display.

To start, two devices are available, the R1505G and the R1606G. The only difference is in the operating frequency, with the 1606 moving about 5 to 10 percent faster. The Ryzen Embedded R1000 SoC supports the Mentor Embedded Linux Flex OS, which is available now. It also runs with Windows 10, Ubuntu, and Yocto.
