Micron Announces 128- and 256-Gbyte microSD Cards Aimed at Video-Surveillance Applications

Cards can store up to 30 days of video stored at the Edge.

Deploying surveillance at the edge just got easier thanks to the general availability of Micron’s 128- and 256-Gbyte microSD card solutions combined with collaboration from several leading video surveillance solution providers. The microSD cards are built on Micron’s 64-layer 3D TLC NAND technology, resulting in higher capacities in smaller spaces. According to Micron, OEMs can now provide up to 30 days of surveillance video directly within the camera.

The new cards provide more than three years of continuous video recording in a wide range of temperatures and environments. An embedded “smart” feature allows the cards to self-monitor and provide information on use and expected useful remaining. An MTBF of two million hours provides better or equal performance compared to hard-disk drives. And specialized firmware designed for continuous video recording minimizes frame drops and video loss.
