Claroty released its AccessDB Parser, a tool developed to support testing, automation, fuzzing, reverse-engineering research, and more. The tool can parse through Microsoft AccessDB files (.mdb/.accdb) and is fully written in Python, eliminating external binary dependencies.
Per the company, the parser supports Microsoft Access versions 1995 to 2010. Access is a database management system combining Microsoft Jet Database Engine with GUIs and software development tools. The program is part of the Microsoft Office suite of application.
Uri Katz, who developed AccessDB Parser, said the initial purpose of the tool was to support Claroty Continuous Threat Detection (CTD)’s Application DB (AppDB) scanning capabilities.
AppDB provides methods for identifying and managing assets in operational technology (OT) environments by parsing artifacts including programmable logic controller (PLC) and remote terminal unit (RTU) project configuration files.
