Renesas Electronics Releases 28nm MCU

TOKYO, JAPAN. Renesas Electronics Corporation announced the development the next-generation automotive-control flash Microcontrollers (MCUs) featuring a 28 nanometer (nm) low-power process.

The MCU has four 600 megahertz (MHz) CPUs including a lock-step mechanism and a large 16 MB flash memory capacity, in addition to:

  • Virtualization-assisted functions enabling MCU virtualization
  • Enhanced built-in self-test (BIST) functionality
  • Enhanced networking functionality

Key features also include:

  • Hardware-based virtualization-assisted functions
  • Standby-resume built-in self-test (BIST) function
  • SGMII-compliant Gigabit Ethernet interface with 5V support

Renesas’ aggressive development of the new 28nm flash MCUs will yield a new generation of eco-friendly and autonomous driving cars and bring a safer and more secure driving experience to fruition.
