CHANDLER, AZ. Microchip has released the semiconductor industry’s first zigbee-certified platform with both zigbee PRO and Green Power features (formerly ZigBee 3.0), incorporating the software stack into the BitCloud 4.0 software development kit (SDK) used for application development on the SAMR 21 Xplained Pro Evaluation Kit. The platform also supports zigbee Light Link and zigbee Home Automation device types, and is backwards compatible with existing zigbee-certified products.

zigbee Green Power features enable secure onboarding of energy harvesting-class devices in low-latency wireless networks. The 32-bit Cortex-M0+ based SAM R21 evaluation kit includes a 2.4 GHz 802.15.4 antenna, providing a complete development solution when paired with the BitCloud 4.0 SDK.

“With both our hardware and SDK, we’re able to provide best-in-class functionality for a wide range of applications from large-scale commercial lighting to ultra-low power batteryless devices,” says Steve Caldwell, Vice President of Wireless Solutions, Microchip. “We’re proud to be the first silicon manufacturer to offer a zigbee-certified platform with zigbee PRO and Green Power features.”

More information on the zigbee compliant platform, including BitCloud 4.0 and the SAM R21 Xplained Pro Evaluation Kit, can be found at www.microchip.com/bitcloud.
