The combined organization is now the largest entity guiding Industrial IoT, AI, fog, and edge computing development.

NEEDHAM, MA . The Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) and the OpenFog Consortium are combining into a single organization under IIC branding. As part of the merger, the IIC Steering Committee will welcome Ron Zahavi, Chief Strategist for IoT Standards in the Azure IoT business unit at Microsoft, and Mung Chiang, Dean of the John A. The IIC will now work to develop industry best practices and technical guidance for fog, edge computing, Industrial IoT, and embedded AI application areas.

“We are excited to take the first steps toward integrating the OpenFog Working Groups, Testbeds and Use Cases with those of the IIC,” says Matt Vasey, President and Chairman of OpenFog and Director of AI and IoT Business Development at Microsoft. “Our membership is highly motivated to contribute at every level to continue the advancement of fog technology in the Industrial Internet.”
