KDPOF 802.3bv GbE transceiver improves EMC in automotive networking

The KD1053 GEPOF provides natural galvanic isolation between communicating modules and a radiation-free harness.

KDPOF has announced the availability of its first automotive Gigabit Ethernet plastic optical fiber (GEPOF) transceiver, the KD1053. The KD1053 provides a flexible digital host interface, low latency, jitter, and linking time in an IEEE 802.3bv-compliant connectivity solution.

The KD1053 GEPOF provides natural galvanic isolation between communicating modules and a radiation-free harness. Reliability analysis of the company’s POF technology has also shown that redundant optical and copper cabling provide high levels of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in automotive Ethernet applications.

"For safety-related functions such as the data network backbone, autonomous driving requires redundant systems in order to increase safety and avoid the autonomous car locking up if one of the systems is disabled in some way," explains Rubén Pérez de Aranda, CTO and Co-founder of KDPOF.

"This grows more important as in-car network speeds increase to accommodate the demands of driverless systems. Higher speeds are achieved by wider use of the electromagnetic spectrum," he adds.

KDPOF will demonstrate network integration with POF at the Automotive Electronics Innovation (AESIN) Conference on October 2, 2018 in Solihull, UK, and at the IEEE-SA Ethernet & IP at Automotive Technology Day on October 9-10, 2018 in London.
