TI Precision Data Converters Reduce System Footprint with High Integration, Performance

DALLAS, TX – Texas Instruments has released four precision data converters, each the smallest in their class. The eight-channel DAC80508 and DAC70508 digital-to-analog converters (DACs) provide 16- and 14-bit resolutions, respectively. The 24-bit ADS122C04 and ADS122U04 analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) feature two-wire I2C- and UART-compatible interfaces, respectively.

The DACs include a 2.5-V, 5-ppm/°C internal reference, and are available in a 2.4 mm x 2.4 mm DSBGA or WCSP packages, or a 3 mm x 3 mm QFN-16 package. The DAC80508 and DAC70508 also provide 1 least-significant bit (LSB) integral nonlinearity to achieve the highest level of accuracy at 16- and 14-bit resolution. According to TI representatives, this results in 36 percent less area and 66 percent better linearity than competing solutions.

The DACs are fully specified over a -40°C to +125°C extended temperature range, and include reliability features such as cyclic redundancy check (CRC).

The 24-bit ADCs are available in 3 mm x 3 mm WQFN-16 and 5 mm x 4.4 mm TSSOP-16 packages. Their two-wire interfaces require fewer digital isolation channels than standard SPI, while integrated input multiplexer, programmable gain amplifier, two programmable excitation current sources, oscillator, and precision temperature sensor help reduce overall system size and cost. Both devices feature a low-drift 2.048-V, 5-ppm/°C internal reference, with gains from 1 to 128 and noise as low as 100 nV

The ADCs are also available in pin-to-pin-compatible 16-bit options.

Designers can simulate designs based on the DACx0508 input/output buffer information specification (IBIS) model, the ADS122C04 IBIS model, or the ADS122U04 IBIS model. The devices are also available in $99 evaluation modules from TI and authorized distributors.
