Now on the Development Kit Selector: Teensy 3.2

Last week our Technology Editor, Brandon Lewis, announced the reboot of our development kit selector. Every week, we’re going to highlight some of the new or remarkable products that can be found there. We start off with a well-known favorite.

The SparkFun Electronics Teensy 3.2 is a breadboard-friendly development kit designed for flexibility, ease of use and, above all, power in a small package. With its small form factor, powerful microcontroller, Arduino compatibility, and the ability to easily load programs via USB, it delivers.

Here are the highlights:

  • 1.4” x 0.7” form factor
  • Freescale ARM Cortex-M4 at 72 MHz
  • 256 Kb Flash
  • 64 Kb RAM
  • 2 Kb EEPROM
  • USB with DMA
  • 34 digital I/O pins
  • 12 PWM outputs
  • 21 analog inputs

In September 2013, the Teensy 3.1 boasted an upgraded microcontroller, adding the new features outlined above and improving functionality over the Teensy 3.0. Now, the compact Teensy 3.2 provides more power than its predecessor with a 3.3 volt regulator that can directly power the add-on Wi-Fi and Ethernet boards. In addition, Teensy 3.2 is backward compatible with Teensy 3.1 and compatible with shield and add-on boards designed for Teensy 3.1.

Using the Teensyduino add-on, the Teensy 3.2 can be programmed using Arduino Software IDE or with any ID using C.
