Microchip’s AEC-Q100-qualified 3D gesture recognition controller reduces HMI design costs

Microchip Technology has released the MGC3140, a 3D gesture recognition controller for advanced automotive HMI designs. The single-chip solutions is AEC-Q100-qualified and offers the lowest system cost in the automotive industry, the company says.

The MGC3140 3D is a capacitive technology-based air gesture controller that supports an operating temperature range of -40ºC to +125ºC while meeting the EMI and EMC requirements of automotive systems. The durable controller provides reliable sensing in full sunlight and harsh environments, and relies on sensors that can be constructed from any conductive material.

The MGC3140 is supported by the Emerald evaluation kit, which includes a PCB with the MGC3140 controller, gesture recognition sensor, cables, and documentation. These components are compatible with the Microchip Aurea software development environment for 3D gesture controllers.

The 3D gesture recognition controller targets automotive applications such as infotainment systems, sun shade operation, interior lighting, and foot-activated rear lift gates. MGC3140 devices are available now in sampling and volume production quantities, with pricing available upon request.
