You could definitely make the argument that automotive applications are currently the fastest growing in the embedded space. It seems like not a day goes by without one of the component suppliers announcing a new offering.

Not to be overlooked is Synopsys‘ latest IP announcement in which the company claims that it can accelerate automotive SoC development. The DesignWare IP portfolio includes Ethernet audio-video bridging (AVB), LPDDR4, MIPI CSI-2 and DSI, HDMI, PCI Express, USB, mobile storage, logic libraries, embedded and non-volatile memory (NVM), data converters, ARC EM processors (with a safety-enhancement package), embedded vision processors, and the sensor and control IP subsystem.

The IP portfolio meets current key automotive functional safety requirements and is being enhanced to address AEC-Q100 and TS 16949 requirements. Hence, SoC designers can accelerate their functional safety assessments and meet the high quality levels required in automotive applications, such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and infotainment.

The Ethernet AVB, LPDDR4, and embedded memory IP are certified to be ASIL B ready for ISO 26262 functional safety, as required by ADAS applications. This IP is delivered with safety packages that include failure-modes effect and diagnostic analysis (FMEDA) reports as well as safety plans and manuals, giving designers the documentation needed to complete their own certification processes. The end result is a reduced time to market.
