Maker boards are getting more powerful and development kits are allowing engineers and makers to do more with increasingly powerful and feature-rich hardware and software packages. In a few recent releases, faster development time, higher performance and compute power, and connectivity with Bluetooth Low Energy and low-power capabilities have been a focus.

1. Raspberry Pi 2 Model B
Earlier this month the Raspberry Pi Foundation launched the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B featuring faster boot and run times over the previous model along with increased expandability.

3. Cypress PSoC development kits
Cypress has a couple PSoC development kits that are also fit for demanding applications. The Bluetooth Low Energy Pioneer Kit provides an onboard Bluetooth Low Energy radio, and the PSoC 4 M-Series Pioneer Kit is highly expandable. Both have great low-power options from the PSoC 4 family for a wide variety of applications.
