Having a nationwide smart grid could provide utility companies and residents many benefits over the current electric grid, but there are a lot of challenges to overcome before a U.S. smart grid can become a reality – securing the smart grid in particular. A strong strategy is needed to create a secure system before installing a smart grid.

The New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Online Masters in Electrical Engineering program has created an infographic that discusses the current state of the U.S. electric grid, the benefits and risks of a smart grid, and security strategies to help protect a smart grid.
