 | One of the names popping up in the previews of next week’s CES isn’t a usual suspect: Cisco.Sure, I’ve got a couple Linksys boxes here like a lot of other folks, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about a report in the NY Times about a new Cisco push into home infotainment. According to that report, Cisco is poised to introduce a digital stereo system at CES which moves music around the house wirelessly.I’m not sure if this is the pure consumer play like Apple and Sony making complete product lines, or more of the technology enabler play like Intel where they hope it’s Cisco technology that’s picked up and they seed the market with a few devices to get the ideas rolling. As with any other re-positioning exercise, Cisco is well known in corporate circles, but not a household name with consumers, and they’ll probably face an uphill climb. Can $27B in cash go a long way to fix that? We’ll see what happens in Vegas.
