Applied Micro Circuits Corporation [NASDAQ:AMCC], a global leader in embedded Power Architecture™processing, optical transport, and storage solutions, announced today that

Continuous Computing, a leading supplier of integrated systems and services that enable telecom equipment manufacturers to rapidly deploy Next Generation Networks (NGN), has selected AMCCs PowerPC® 440EPx embedded processor for its new FlexTCA™integrated system management processor.

Continuous Computings FlexTCA system provides a fully-integrated solution to meet new service and capacity requirements for applications such as Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), Security, IPTV, IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), and more. The system is unique as it provides full integration between fault-tolerant Trillium® protocol stacks, Service Availability Forum™ compliant, High-availability middleware, platform management services, and a range of ATCA blades and chassis options. This unprecedented level of integration has the potential to reduce development time by as much as 24 months while enabling significantly lower development costs.

The AMCC PowerPC 440EPx processor enables Continuous Computings FlexTCA system to deliver unmatched integration and low cost for the switch management and blade management system processor thanks to speeds of up to 667 MHz, support for floating-point operations, USB 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, security and NAND Flash interfaces, as well as low power dissipation and a small footprint. The PowerPC 440EPx embedded processor is ideally suited to a wide range of high-performance applications, including imaging, industrial control and networking.

“By selecting our PowerPC 440EPx processor, Continuous Computing is clearly addressing ATCA customer requirements,” said Sam Fuller, Vice President of Marketing at AMCC. “The high-performance, wide range of features and flexibility of our PowerPC 440EPx are helping Continuous Computing deliver a powerful system that offers significant competitive advantage and provides product differentiation. Customer wins of this nature validate the leadership position of AMCCs Power Architecture processor products.”

“AMCCs Power Architecture processors and evaluation kit provide the highly reliable features, performance and functions we require for our FlexTCA management system,” said Manish Singh, Vice President of Product Line Management at Continuous Computing. “The easy-to-use evaluation kit helps us to drastically reduce development time while enabling significantly lower development costs, which benefits both Continuous Computing and our customers as well.”
